Introduction #
The Historically Black College and University (HBCU) Florida A&M University (FAMU) offers a wide range of residential experiences for students. It is one institution on a list that, throughout the history of the United States post-Civil War, has greatly contributed to the education of African-Americans. This is a university that was established in 1887 on the highest of Tallahassee’s seven hills.
Students coming to FAMU’s campus for the first time will surely be impressed by the university’s new student housing facility FAMU Towers. The two residence halls are the first part of an initiative to drastically increase the options for students who want to live on-campus. Both buildings are four floors and have 350 double-occupancy rooms each. This comes about a year after several dorms determined too expensive to renovate were torn down.

For what it’s worth, this institution is easily one of the most popular “A&M” universities. Part of this may be due to attractions such as the Marching 100 band. Some may remember their appearance at the 48th Annual Grammy Awards with Kanye West and Jamie Foxx.
This school is not only known for its band but also for its dynamic students. One of the school’s recent graduates is a young man by the name of Devin Young. Believe it or not, he was able to earn a degree from Florida A&M’s College of Law while playing American Football internationally with a franchise, Team American, in the Global Games International Football League. Students like Devin are the reason some rank this institution above Howard University as the top HBCU in the country.
