How Much is a Petabyte? #

The amount of digital information companies have in their storage systems these days is sometimes hard to imagine. When someone says they have a petabyte (pb) of data, how much data are they talking about? To put it a tad bit more into perspective, a petabyte of data is equivalent to 1,000 terabytes (tb) of data.

Examples #

Let me share some examples. Some of us may have external drives for our laptops with 1 or 2 terabytes of storage capacity. Another example is your average 4k movie 100 gigabytes (gb) of data. Have you ever been to the Library of Congress? That institution contains over 20 petabytes of data.
